Lixouri – An unforgettable visit

Lixouri. A name that sounds gentle and yet is as vibrant as the place itself. The second largest town on Kefalonia lies quietly on the Paliki peninsula – and yet has its own quiet strength.
The short ferry ride from Argostoli is enchanting in itself: just a few minutes separate the two towns, yet Lixouri seems like another world. Here, everything seems a little slower, warmer, more human.

The main street with its small, typical shops

On the central square, locals drink coffee, discuss, laugh – a place to meet and a place of peace at the same time. Small shops and taverns invite you to linger, while the light reflects on the whitewashed walls and the bougainvillea glow.

The square comes to life when the sun goes down:

small concerts, theatre performances or spontaneous musical performances take place here again and again – whether it’s local groups, folklore dancers or young musicians who simply gather in the open air. The air then fills with music, voices and applause – Lixouri shows its cultural side.

Lixouri is not noisy. But it tells stories – through its people, its lanes, its coastline. And that is precisely why this place remains unforgettable.

But perhaps the best thing about Lixouri is not the place itself – but the people I met here. Conversations grew out of encounters, and real connections out of conversations. I would never have thought that I would be received so warmly far from home. But it was precisely here, in the small gestures and quiet moments, that I found something that goes far beyond a holiday: friendship.
